How to get ready for delivery day
Clear a straight path about 60 feet long for a 20ft container or 100 feet for a 40ft, make sure nothing hangs overhead, and move vehicles well clear. Mark the exact spot you want it and be reachable by phone when the driver arrives.
The checklist
Clear the approach: no parked cars, trailers, boats or bins along the run. Trim or flag low limbs. Check for power and cable drops crossing the spot.
Mark the placement — a stake, a spray mark or a couple of bricks. Decide which way the doors should face before the truck arrives, because turning it afterwards is not simple.
Be reachable
The single most common cause of a failed delivery is nobody answering when the driver has a question. You do not usually need to be there, but you do need to be on the phone.
If the weather has been bad and the ground is soft, call and reschedule rather than hoping. Most yards will move a booking for nothing; almost none will absorb the cost of a bogged truck.
