Can you put a storage container on grass?
Yes, a container can sit on grass or firm dirt, and plenty do. The limit is not the container but the truck delivering it — a loaded tilt-bed will sink into soft, sandy or rain-soaked ground long before the container does.
The truck is the constraint
The container itself spreads its weight over four corner castings and is happy on level, firm ground. The delivery truck is the heavy, narrow-tyred problem.
If the ground is soft enough that a loaded pickup would rut it, say so when you arrange the drop. With most yards that changes the scheduling — dry days, a different approach — rather than the price, and it is far cheaper than a bogged truck.
Blocking and drainage
On grass or dirt it is worth setting the corners on blocking so the container sits level and out of standing water. Level matters more than people expect: an out-of-level container has doors that will not latch properly.
Avoid the low spot in the yard. Water pooling under a container will not get inside it, but it will make loading miserable and can bog the truck at pickup.
