Will a storage container damage my driveway?
A container resting on a sound concrete driveway rarely causes damage, because the weight sits on four corner castings rather than the whole footprint. The real risk is the delivery truck and hot asphalt — a loaded tilt-bed is far heavier than the container, and asphalt softens in Mississippi summer heat.
Concrete vs asphalt
Sound concrete generally takes it without trouble. Older concrete with existing cracking, or a thin residential pour over poor base, is where problems show up.
Asphalt is the one to think about. In summer heat asphalt softens, and concentrated point loads from corner castings can leave dimples. If the drive is asphalt, ask the yard about setting the container on blocking to spread the load.
How to protect the surface
Blocking under each corner spreads the load and keeps the castings off the surface. Ask for it in writing in the delivery notes rather than mentioning it to whoever answers the phone.
Worth being clear-eyed rather than reassured: the container is not yours and the driveway is. Agree beforehand who carries the risk if the surface marks, because that conversation goes much better before delivery than after.
