Should I buy a used or one-trip container in Mississippi?

Buy a used wind and watertight container if it is for storage: it keeps your things exactly as dry as a one-trip box and costs less. Pay the one-trip price when the container will be seen from the street, converted into a shop or office, or kept for decades, because then the straight frame, clean floor and factory paint are what you are paying for.

Used vs one-trip container price in Mississippi: what the gap buys

The used vs one-trip container price in Mississippi is the first number most buyers compare, and the gap is real. Both are shipping containers for sale by the same delivered-to-your-ZIP method — most people here call either one a conex box — so the difference between them is the box itself, not the haul.

A used wind and watertight (WWT) container has spent years at sea. It has no holes, the doors seal and the roof keeps rain out, but it comes with dents, surface rust, faded paint and someone else's logo. A one-trip container made a single loaded voyage from the factory and was sold, so it arrives close to new. The full grade breakdown, including cargo worthy in between, is in one-trip vs used and cargo worthy vs WWT.

To see the actual gap for your address, enter your ZIP on the containers page and put the 20ft used WWT next to the 20ft one-trip, or the 40ft high cube used WWT next to the 40ft high cube one-trip. Prices come from a daily supplier feed and already include delivery, so the difference you see is the whole difference.

When the used box is the right buy

Storage that stays put. Tools and mowers behind a house in Petal, feed and tack on a farm outside Laurel, a gear box at a hunting camp in Perry County, overflow inventory behind a shop in Hattiesburg. Neither grade is insulated, and new steel sweats in a south Mississippi summer exactly like old steel, so the one-trip premium does not buy you a drier box. Vents do that — see container condensation.

Out of sight, out of mind. If the container sits at the back of the property, behind a tree line or at the camp, nobody cares what colour it is. Rust on a used box is surface wear; what matters is a sealed roof and sealing doors, and you check both the day it lands.

When one-trip earns its price

It will be seen. On a town lot where a neighbour, an HOA or the street is looking at it, a clean single-colour box is much easier to live with. If you are inside city limits in Hattiesburg, Gulfport or the Jackson metro, ask the city planning or code office how a permanent container is treated before you buy either grade — the rules differ town to town. See permit rules.

You are converting it. A workshop, an office or a camp with cut openings, insulation and lights starts better on a straight frame, a clean floor and a rust-free roof. The Workshop Box is a container and its kit at one delivered price; the kit ships separately and you install it.

You are keeping it for decades. Fresh paint is a head start against Gulf Coast humidity and salt air. Either way, the tilt-bed needs about 110 feet of straight, firm run for a 20ft and 130 for a 40ft — delivery access covers it — and your card is authorized, not charged, until we confirm the order and the delivery window, typically within a week or two.
